Naarm/Melbourne, Australia - Meet Stilla, the emerging Naarm/Melbourne pop princess who is set to unveil her first release of 2024, ‘UNDER THE WEATHER’. Releasing on June 7th, Stilla explores the complexities of toxic relationships, showcasing her knack for turning personal experiences into pop anthems.

‘UNDER THE WEATHER’ is a deep dive into a relationship that is plagued with toxicity and an abundance of emotional turbulence. Throughout the track, Stilla touches on the moment in a relationship when you’re past the point of romanticising and start feeling frustration and resentment, detaching from a partner whose erratic behaviour aims to make you as miserable as they are. The feeling of being "under the weather" in this context relates not just to physical health, but to the emotional rollercoaster and negative emotions in the relationship, symbolising the desire to escape its cloudy atmosphere.

The writing journey of ‘Under The Weather’ began in 2021 for Stilla, whose taste for metaphors and everyday expressions led to the resonant title. Influenced by pop trailblazers like The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, and Ariana Grande, the new single stands out with its strong, international sound, characterised by distinctive bass riffs and drums.  

Fast forward two years, Stilla shared the song with her co-producer Nathan Zammit, and together they decided to reimagine the production. They introduced a dramatic build at the start and focused on incorporating lush synths and backing vocals. During the production process, Stilla also revised a significant portion of the lyrics and melody, while keeping the overall structure mostly the same. 

“Once production was finished we handed all the stems over to Hayden Lauerson (Tentendo, Sophiya, Boy Soda) who totally nailed the mix, and made me feel like such a pop princess with this track. He took it to another level. I'm really very proud of how it’s turned out and am excited for it to be out in the world.”

‘UNDER THE WEATHER’ marks the first release of 2024 for Stilla, coming off the success of 2023 releases ‘Ashes (Acoustic’) and ‘Pretend’ which accumulated over 60,000 streams.

Since Stilla’s debut release in 2021, she has played an array of key showcases including Sofar Sounds and Breaking Sounds - and continues to build her momentum with ALONG THE IVY Showcase in July 2024, playing alongside Jarrod Jeremiah, REX and YNG One. 

‘UNDER THE WEATHER’ will be available to be streamed on all major platforms on June 7th.
