Naarm/Melbourne, Australia - Fresh off his first-ever national tour and the success of his curated festival KOZY FEST, Squid the Kid returns with his latest single, Stuck, set for release on March 12—coinciding with his debut international performances at SXSW Austin. Blending his signature laid-back groove with new pop-infused elements, Stuck marks an exciting evolution in Squid’s sound—one inspired by the feel-good, summery vibes of artists like Jordan Ward.
Lyrically, Stuck weaves two narratives into one. The first reflects the highs and lows of life on the road—meeting new faces, chasing opportunities, and navigating the overwhelming nature of constant movement.
“Being on tour last year was surreal,” Squid shares. “BIGSOUND was my first stop, and seeing all these up-and-coming artists in one place was mad. I’ve dreamed of being on these lineups, so I never take it for granted, but with all the travel and late nights, the social battery runs out quick. Stuck is about pushing through and making the most of every moment.”
The second storyline flips inward—capturing the sting of unrequited love and the emotional weight of realising someone you’re falling for doesn’t feel the same. Despite its melancholic undertones, Stuck embraces an uplifting, danceable energy, striking a balance between heartache and movement. It’s a testament to Squid the Kid’s ability to turn personal experiences into songs that resonate far beyond himself.
Stuck follows a string of major milestones for Squid, including his breakout single Getaway hitting 1 million streams on Spotify, Triple J airplay for his entire debut EP KOZY TAPE, including a first play for SPEED. His Stay remix with Jewel Owusu has also gained traction, amassing over 11K TikTok creates, further cementing his growing presence in the digital space.
As 2025 kicks off, Squid the Kid is gearing up for his biggest year yet. An official showcasing artist at SXSW Austin with four shows lined up in Texas, he continues to push boundaries with his genre-blurring sound. From playing Beyond the Valley and supporting The Jungle Giants to landing playlisting support from Spotify and Apple Music, Squid’s momentum is undeniable.
With Stuck, Squid leans further into his pop sensibilities while keeping the infectious groove that’s made him a standout in Australia’s new wave of R&B and hip-hop. “This one is different for me,” he says, “but I hope people can dance to it while the sun’s still beaming in Melbourne.”
Stuck will be available on all major streaming platforms on March 12.
